This was supposed to be the summer I took my family to England to meet my extended family. Well, 2020 had other plans and we had to come up with a more socially distant summer activity. So we decided to buy an an old fishing boat instead! What's more socially distant than hanging out in the middle of the ocean? It's not luxurious (did I mention how old the boat is?) but it's a ton of fun. The kids love catching the little sand sharks we have around here. And me? I just like chilling on the boat. But don't worry @its_me_lucyp, I'm still coming to England, just not this summer. You can find me on the boat in the meantime 😎 Did Covid change your plans? Have you done anything fun this summer?

I was on the hunt for some new boredom busters when I saw this fun craft on @iteachinheels1's stories yesterday. Water bottle bird feeders! All you need is a water bottle, sticks or skewers, and some string. The kids pulled my washi tape out of the craft supplies and went to town. I helped Tommy cut three holes in his but Joey handled his own. He even added toothpicks to the top to make his "squirrel proof" 🐿️😂 We had a crazy rainstorm here in NJ today and so far, the bird feeders are still going strong. In the midst of recent current events, it's easy to shelter our kids and keep them blissfully unaware of what's going on in the world. After all, it doesn't affect them, right? 💡
Wrongo. I won't preach to you about the world's current state because there are enough people on IG doing that already. But I will say this: Include the kids. Have the conversations. Encourage questions and keep an open dialogue going. If racism hasn't affected our kids, that's a privilege. If they haven't been affected by coronavirus, they've been lucky. But let's include them whenever we can and teach them what we know. Let's teach them to be responsible and kind citizens in society. 💡
Knowledge conquers ignorance. Teach them now so there's no need to backtrack later. So many people are reading books, donating money, and trying to figure out how they can help. All that is good (really good, keep that up) but here's something you can do that's free: Teach your kids to be kind, anti-racist, and willing to stand up for what they believe in. Keep them in the loop and watch them surprise you.

If you don't understand the Black Lives Matter movement, read this statement until you do. Yes, all lives matter, but we are amplifying Black lives to dismantle white privilege and racist beliefs. We cannot claim that all lives matter until Black lives matter. By supporting BLM, we do not pull down any other group. Instead, we serve as allies to lift up a group that has been marginalized in the past. No more. Speak up. Be an amplifier not an enabler.
