Extra Credit Opportunity! (Remote)

Hello, diligent students!

You’ve come here to complete your reading assignment, and today you’ll have the chance to be rewarded. This is my way of saying thank you for keeping up with the classwork!

I’ll start our next class a few minutes early, like I usually do. It’s during that time BEFORE CLASS that this extra credit activity will take place. Once class starts, the extra credit opportunity is over.

It’s quick, fun, and a little silly. It’ll show me who’s keeping up with the assigned readings and will reward those who do.

Ready? Here’s what you do:

1. DM me.

Send me a message in Canvas with just an emoji. For example, your message to me might be: 🙃 This is how I’ll determine who did the reading and who is just joining in on the animal noises.

I recommend that you send me the emoji message now so you don’t forget. It’s due BEFORE class.

2. Be early.

Join our next Zoom meeting a few minutes before class starts.

3. Make some noise.

Unmute yourself and make an animal noise. Yes, an animal noise.

Make sure I acknowledge you. I’ll be keeping track but sometimes it takes me a little while to figure out who is talking. You may need to repeat yourself. Once I acknowledge you personally, you’ll know I awarded you the extra credit points.

Do NOT answer any questions about what we’re doing or why we’re doing it. That will disqualify you and possibly end the activity for everyone. No private chats or verbal explanations. Just do your animal noise and that’s it. Only those who did the reading assignment will know what’s going on.

So that’s how we’re starting our next class. Are you in? This extra credit activity is worth two points on your FINAL EXAM GRADE.
